Hollola health centre

The new social welfare and healthcare centre in Hollola is secured by a backup power unit built in a shipping container

At the end of 2021, a completely new social welfare and healthcare centre was built in Hollola, providing extensive primary social welfare and healthcare services for people living in the area. A prerequisite for the operation of the health centre is a reliable backup power unit, which was installed in the location by Kuusitunturi Lahti and kW-set. If something unexpected happens in electricity networks, the backup power unit can be used to maintain critical systems in all conditions.

“We partnered with kW-set at the newly completed Hollola health centre. It is a large new site that employed us for about a year. To ensure the functioning of the health centre, kW-set designed a suitable backup power unit for the site and delivered it on schedule. The design of the backup power unit addressed the specific requirements set by the site. We also work with the kW-set in other locations, including Päijät-Häme Central Hospital, and previously also at the service building Jalmari,” says Lauri Koskinen, who works as a project manager at Kuusitunturi.

Backup power secures the operation of the entire health centre at a critical moment

The backup power unit at the new Hollola health centre also secures the operation of the entire centre during any power outages. In accordance with the requirements set by the new site, the backup power unit has an output of 400 kW, in addition to which it has a 1,500-litre fuel tank. The site’s backup power unit was installed in a 20-foot shipping container which, as a solution, enabled effective soundproofing and ventilation. According to Lauri, the solution designed by kW-set responded excellently to the needs of the Hollola health centre.

“We decided to acquire the backup power unit from kW-set because it was easy for us to rely on their expertise as a domestic company. Specialists from kW-set installed the backup power unit with solid professionalism which allowed us to direct our resources at other parts of the project. During the design phase, we went through 3D modelling together and solved implementation challenges, as a result of which the outcome was very successful,” Lauri says.

Mutual understanding as the basis of successful cooperation

A professional partner is an absolute requirement for the implementation of backup power, as it secures the operation of the health centre’s systems in critical situations. According to Lauri, it was easy to rely on kW-set in the demanding project, as they had already worked smoothly together in various projects. Close interaction and a mutual understanding are key factors in a successful partnership.

“Specialists from kW-set are easy to approach, and cooperation with them has been excellent in all projects. I have been able to contact them on a very low threshold, and they have always given me the support I need. Thanks to kW-set, we can easily focus on our own core competence, in addition to which cooperation with them is always fun,” Lauri says.
